Ashley Walkley, the founder and principal of AEW Inc.,
arrived in Canada in 1980 as Manager for the Australian wine
firm Thomas Hardy & Sons. As the pioneer Australian wine
marketer in North America he is recognized as having been instrumental
in setting up the framework for the remarkable expansion of
"down-under" brands into the fastest growing wine
category in Canada today. He is an acknowledged wine authority
and founder of the Australian Wine Society.
Deciding to stay in Canada, Ashley was recruited by the Australian
Consulate General as Senior Marketing Officer, where he increased
the visibility and commercial success of Australian interests
in Canada through both diplomatic and commercial channels.
In 1988 he joined U.S. brewer Stroh’s as Manager Canada.
He played a key role in the bi-lateral Canada/U.S. trade negotiations
resulting in the dismantling of trade barriers and full market
access for foreign brewers – at the same time growing
the Canadian operation into the largest and most profitable
division within the international Stroh's empire.
Ashley is a founder and current President of the Australian-Canadian
Chamber of Commerce, where he remains active in furthering Australian/Canadian
trade and cultural relations.
